The all-new MDX, on sale early next year, is set to assume the flagship role in the Acura lineup as the most premium, performance-focused and technologically sophisticated SUV in Acura history. The unveiling of the MDX Prototype gives us a good glimpse of the bold new design, luxurious interior, and an armory of Acura technologies.

The MDX will also bolster an all-new performance focused platform with MDX’s first-ever double wishbone front suspension, and the first ever application of the Type S high performance moniker to an Acura SUV.

“As market demand for SUVs continues to increase, competition is getting stronger, and customer expectations are heightened, in response, we have significantly upped our game with this next generation MDX,” explains Emile Korkor, AVP Acura Canada. “Our focus is to deliver uncompromising driving performance with an overall experience that encompasses refinement, technology and premium touchpoints. This is a true flagship vehicle for our brand.”

Exterior Design

The all new MDX features the signature elements of Acura’s next-gen design language which includes a three-dimensional Diamond Pentagon grille flanked by four-element JewelEye LED headlights, underscored by Chicane LED daytime running lights. The MDX Prototype has a 3-inch longer wheelbase which aides in ride quality, spacious seating in all three rows, and a larger cargo space.

Interior Design

Inside the MDX Prototype is a brand new interior featuring open-pore wood trim, polished aluminum, and plush Milano leather. The seats have a 16-way adjustment and a massage function plus a premium 25-speaker sound system from ELS. You can also illuminate the entire cabin with Acura’s Iconic Drive LED featuring 27 different lighting schemes.

Performance

Acura is debuting an all-new light truck platform build for athletic handling, refined ride comfort and exception cabin quietness. The MDX Prototype will be powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine which generates 290 horsepower. There will also be an option for 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 in the upcoming Type S version which generates 355 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft., which will make it the most powerful engine offered in an Acura SUV.

Acura MDX has long been an SUV loved by Canadians, having more than 100,00 models sold in the past two decades. Our team here at Markham Acura will be eagerly waiting for the model to land at our dealership. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates!
