What Happened to the Acura NSX?
August 04 2023,
The Acura NSX was a true game-changer when it was first introduced in 1990. It was a supercar that could hold its own against Ferrari and Lamborghini but with the reliability and practicality of a Honda. It was a car ahead of its time, with its lightweight aluminum body, mid-engine layout, and VTEC engine technology.
The NSX was a shining star in the automotive world for the first decade. It won numerous awards and accolades and even featured in popular movies. However, in 2005, Acura announced that it was discontinuing the NSX due to slow sales and rising production costs.

Second Generation
For over a decade, fans of the NSX were left without a new model to drool over. In 2016, Acura finally unveiled the highly-anticipated second-generation NSX. The new NSX radically departed from its predecessor with a hybrid powertrain and a hefty price tag.
The new NSX received mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. Some praised its advanced technology and stunning performance, while others criticized it for being too heavy and lacking the soul of the original. Sales of the new NSX have been slow, with many potential buyers opting for more established supercar brands.
Discontinued Again
Despite the challenges, Acura has remained committed to the NSX and has continued to improve the car. In 2019, the NSX received several updates, including a new front grille, improved suspension, and a new paint colour option. However, in November 2022, Acura discontinued the second-generation NSX.
